Last week I had to reinstall my development machine for reasons I wont get into to. Well ok then if you insist, since I was running Windows 2003 on it I just couldn't get my sound card to work and for a year or so I just havn't cared about it but now I needed sound support - and the only solution was to remove W2003 and install Windows XP instead.
Took me a day to get everyting up and running, I mean first I had to backup all my SQL Server databases, then install XP, install Visual Studio, SQL Server, VMWare, restore databases, download and reinstall thirdparty components etc. However, my tip here for you is to take a look at OldVersion.com, a site offering downloads of older versions of some software. My obvious target was to find an earlier version of Adobe Reader. I find it ridicoulous how large the download and software has gotten and most of all how long it takes to startup. At oldversions.com I found version 4, weighting in at about 5 MB and starts up like a rocket!
